Classes & Curricula





Classes vary from 1 to 4 sessions during afternoon and evening hours. All classes and services are free. Please be sure to check our calendar for the days and times that specific classes are offered.



The Basics

Intro to Computer Basics: Designed for the person with little or no experience with computers.

Intro to Windows XP: Learn to use the Windows features.

Intro to the Internet: How to find what you need online.

Intro to E-mail: Choosing a provider and using features

Intro to Word-Processing and Keyboarding: Covers basic concepts such as keyboard layout, using menus, copying, cutting, pasting, saving and more. We also introduce our students to Mavis Beacon Teaches Typing; a software available for free that teaches you how to type at your own pace. Many of our students come during Open Lab sessions to practice typing.



Microsoft Applications

Intro to Microsoft Word: Learn to create and format documents for school, work, resumes, and letters. Beginners will learn how to use 4 toolbars effectively. Microsoft Word Reference Sheet

Intro to Microsoft Excel: This application is used in businesses and offices for presenting and organizing information, charts, and graphs. Learn extended formatting techniques and practice using spreadsheets. Microsoft Excel Reference Sheet

Intro to Microsoft PowerPoint: This a presentation tool used by business people to pitch their ideas or by students to present a topic of study. Microsoft PowerPoint Reference Sheet

Intro to Microsoft Publisher: Learn the basics of this extensive publishing tool that comes equipped with templates for all kinds of prepared documents such as pamphlets, flyers, newsletters, and more.



Media Classes

Intro to iMovie: Designed for the person with little to no experience with digital video-editing programs. iMovie is a MAC software program that allows you to manipulate digital camera footage that includes a variety of special effects.

Intro to Photoshop: Designed for the person with little to no experience with photo-editing programs. Photoshop 7.0 is a software program that allows you to manipulate pictures. This class is not designed for someone new to computers.



Internet Classes

Basic Web Design: Learn the basics of planning and designing a personal web site in a simple 4-step process:
  1. Decide what your web site is about and write about it
  2. Get your own free web space through Yahoo-Geocities
  3. Bring in your own pictures or find pictures on the web to use on your web site
  4. Learn HTML codes and what they do
...and we'll help you put it all together to create your own personally designed web space.



Additional Classes

Using the Internet in Your Job Search: Learn how to use the Internet to search for job openings. Requires completion of Intro to Computer Basics or equivalent.

Resume Writing: Learn the basics of resume writing and develop your own resume. Designed for the person with basic word-processing experience. Requires completion of Intro to Word Processing or equivalent.

Open Lab: Look for these sessions in our calendar. Community users and students can use the computer lab during Open Lab hours to work on any of the following:

  • Look for employment online
  • Practice English with available software
  • Conduct Internet research
  • Check and send e-mail
  • Improve your typing skills with Mavis Beacon
  • Scan photographs
